Come, Holy Spirit!!!
How exciting it is when the Holy Spirit moves in the Marketplace!
A long layover in Washington DC the other day gave me time to reflect on ways the Holy Spirit moved during my brief visit in Bedford, VA. Some high points:
1] Inside the BP gas station in Bedford on Monday morning (May 13), where about 4 to 6 retired men, mostly Southern Baptists, join together for coffee and socializing almost every day but Sundays. I’ve gotten to know these men through my visits to Bedford over the past few years. Usually our time together moves beyond enjoyable fellowship to a kind of “Ask the Pastor” format. But Monday turned into a no-holds-barred evangelistic and prayer ministry outreach. A soft rock musician and songwriter came in, and he was drawn into our conversation. The Holy Spirit awakened a desire in him for using his musical gifts to honor God and touch people’s lives. Overcoming some serious disillusionment with “church”, he prayed with us to surrender his life to Christ and make his life count.
2] Another man came in who had recently lost his dad, and now his mom is seriously ill. The stress caused him to have a stroke, and he’s trying to recover and hold things together. I think he is in law enforcement. Our “ministry team” prayed for him, and he felt great release. He opened up and shared all kinds of pent up emotions, and as he left, he was resolved to take his wife to church and be a spiritual leader in their home.
3] We were able to pray also with a young woman pharmacist as well. All this in a gas station coffee area. We all MARVELED at what God had done. Thank You, Holy Spirit!
TRUTH IS: Cheri and I may be moving temporarily to Bedford in midsummer for awhile. My precious mother will be 100 years old in October. She prayed me to Jesus, and Lord willing, I’d like to be there for her for awhile before she graduates to Heaven. If that happens, I’m sure the Holy Spirit has a lot in store for us at the BP station, corner of Peaks and Main. COME, HOLY SPIRIT!!!
