The Impure Motives of Many Atheists

ATHEISM AND APOSTASY ARE OFTEN MOTIVATED BY REBELLION AGAINST GOD’S WORD CALLING FOR SEXUAL PURITY.

There are a number of reasons that people express for why they don’t believe in God, or for why they commit apostasy. Some may have intellectual struggles, and for others it may be related to the problem of suffering. But perhaps you have noticed, as I have, that multitudes of people who claim to be atheists express intellectual objections and arguments against the faith that, after probing a bit, prove to be nothing more than smokescreens hiding their deeper motivations. What I have found, time and again, is this: Atheism and apostasy are often motivated by rebellion against God’s clear commands and expectations regarding sexual purity.

This finding of mine is clearly substantiated in the following quote from Aldous Huxley, philosopher and author of Brave New World and many other books:

“I had motives for not wanting the world to have a meaning; and consequently assumed that it had none, and was able without any difficulty to find satisfying reasons for this assumption. The philosopher who finds no meaning in the world is not concerned exclusively with a problem in pure metaphysics. He is also concerned to prove that there is no valid reason why he personally should not do as he wants to do. For myself, as no doubt for most of my friends, the philosophy of meaninglessness was essentially an instrument of liberation from a certain system of morality. We objected to the morality because it interfered with our sexual freedom. The supporters of this system claimed that it embodied the meaning – the Christian meaning, they insisted – of the world. There was one admirably simple method of confuting these people and justifying ourselves in our erotic revolt: we would deny that the world had any meaning whatever.”
(– Aldous Huxley, Ends and Means. He died in 1963.)

Clear, isn’t it? Rebelling against God’s will in the area of sexuality causes many to disbelieve or fall away. Here is what the Bible says:

“Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality, nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. And such were some of you. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God” (I Corinthians 6:9-11, ESV).

That’s even more clear. Dear Heavenly Father, please help our nation turn away from our wicked ways and give our hearts to You.
